Check out some of my favorite tools!

X32 Theatre Control

X32 Theatre Control - If you are mixing theatre on an X/M Series console, you must check out this amazing software! Although I was already mixing on DCAs and using all 100 Scenes and Snippets, this totally streamlines programing, allows quick edits on the fly and you can program the show away from the desk as well. I can’t say enough good things about James and X32TC but this program should cost money! Thank you, James Holt!

Yamaha CL Editor

With or without the console, I love this application (allows for extended operation when console is present and full offline setup and programming, including scene management)! In addition to full Selected Channel and Overview display operation, the CL Editor facilitates scene data management, patch list editing, channel name editing, and much more. I fully programmed many musicals away from the desk using this application.

Yamaha Teachers’ Tips

I love these quick videos that demonstrate so many shortcuts and tips. Search Teachers’ Tips on Yamaha_Global’s YouTube page (Yamaha also has many other great console videos to check out as well).

USB GO BOX

I use this every time I use Qlab…it is rock solid and I LOVE it! The USB GO BOX is a Dual USB MIDI Controller. With plug and play compatibility on both Mac and PC, a rugged metal case, 2 independent USB connections, it's the smart way to control your show.

Whirlwind Qbox

A friend introduced this to me and I had to have one…so versatile!! The Qbox is the all-in-one audio line tester ideal for applications such as live sound, maintenance, installation work - anywhere audio runs down a cable. Generate into or monitor from your analog sound system at ANY point with this one indispensable tool.

XLR Sniffer/Sender

Quickly troubleshoot faulty mic lines and cables with this set of remote end cable testers. The XLR Sniffers can also utilize phantom power to test snake lines and cables in live environments, making it simple to diagnose issues and get your show up and running. I love this tool!!

RF Explorer

Although newer mics can produce a RF scan that can be used during frequency coordination, I don’t always work with newer mics so I pull out my RF Explorer, run a scan, and import the data into Shure’s WWB. RF Explorer is an affordable Handheld Spectrum Analyzer designed from scratch to be a sort of Swiss Army Knife for the specific needs of digital radio frequency communication. In today’s congested RF environment, we must rely on tools and software to have a chance at finding enough space for actor’s mics.
